Matters On Tomorrow was able to provide monetary support to a few Lincolnites traveling to Zambia to join a group of missionaries constructing a number of school buildings in the Livingstone area. A 106 person team of volunteers and local workers were able to provide the necessary supplies to complete a number of important buildings to educate future generations.
A new high-school complex is complete with dorms, classrooms and a multipurpose building. The school will accommodate the learning of thousands of students waiting for an education absence other options. Education is central to fighting poverty and empowering individuals to grow themselves and their communities.
In addition, MOT donated a large number of hammers to be distributed to a group of ‘rock crushers’ just outside of Livingstone. This group of people harvest rock from a large quarry and use the hammers to turn boulders into gravel. The gravel then is sold in two-ton piles for three to five U.S. Dollars. As one can imagine, the work is tedious, dangerous and physically demanding. Despite a difficult work environment, the rock crushers welcomed the group with friendly waves and large smiles; the smiles grew even larger, though, when presented with the fresh new hammers MOT provided. These replaced their handmade hammers, made from spare car parts bound to sticks and scrap wood.
Another great example of how those involved with MOT are connecting the Lincoln community with the world community to see change happen. Lincoln is half a world away from Zambia but with planning, teamwork and vacation time an impact will be made on every person that attends that school. Hopefully MOT gets the opportunity to help with this mission again.
